OSCARS 2020 | ROLEX
Art Directing this shoot was a true joy. Working with legends of cinema both in front and behind camera was a memorable experience that taught me how to approach a project creative-first. Often on Commercial projects, much of what we do has been filtered through many layers of creative exchange before it arrives in the hands of Production. The best analogy to explain the effect of this is using a specific language. Production Designers must be fluent in multiple “brand languages” but work within the boundaries of what each language offers. As an international brand, this client offers a broad linguistic framework allowing our team to approach the visual style more openly.
Obviously filming across the world comes with major logistical challenges. However, this was an opportunity learn a ton about materials and construction methods used around the world, flex a Metric/Imperial conversion muscle, execute with precision, and devise a workflow to overcome the hurdles inherent in dealing across borders.
